"The Awakening" Soundtrack
Erica Reske

“Love Song” -  Adele

This song relates to the "love" between Robert and Edna. When Robert left for Mexico, you could start to see the "love" that Edna had for him. When he was gone, she would ask about him and if he had written to her. The song is very calm and mellow, just like their "love" for one another.

“Walk on the Water” - Britt Nicole

“How easy it is! She thought. It is nothing; she said aloud, why did I not discover before that it is nothing think of the time I lost splashing like a baby! She would not join the groups in their sports and bouts, but intoxicated with her newly conquered power, she swam out alone.” (Chopin, 27) This song reminded me of when Edna learned to swim. The song talks about stepping out, even when your afraid. It really matches the emotion from the scene. But through this process,  this is where she really found her inner-strength, her freedom, and her depth from within. Learning how to swim showed just how strong she really was.

“Strength, Courage, and Wisdom” - India Arie

"Courageours, ma foi! The brave soul. The soul that dares and defies." (Chopin, 61)  The song talks about how we have it all along, we just need to learn how stop being afraid of things. There were a variety of ways that Edna showed courage and bravery. Learning how to swim was one way she did this. Through this Edna found her passion of painting. She expressed herself through the paintbrush. Having strength, courage, and wisdom I believe helped her find her way.
"Stand Up" - Jesse J

"Leonce, go to bed," she said. I mean to stay out shere. I don't wish to go in, and I don't intend to. Don't speak to me like that again; I shall not answer you." (Chopin, 31) The song talks about standing up for yourself when surrounded by negative people. I won't say that her husband was necessarily a negative person, but Edna was rebelous. She constantly went against the grain and what he husband asked of her.
"Wings of A Butterfly" - Jimmy Scott

"Perhaps Dr Mandelet would have understood if she had seen him-but it was too late; shore was far behind her, and her strength was gone." (Chopin, 108) All along Edna felt like a bird with a broken wing. This song symbolizes her losing her strength. I feel like the butterfly symbolizes her when all was said and done. She could fly now and have no more pain. She was no longer a bird with a clipped wing, but a butterfly in heaven.
